Review: This continuation of the Windham family series was funny, sexy and sweet. How could it be anything else–there were orphans, for goodness sake! I really enjoyed the slow build up to live with these two characters.
Anwen was a funny, fearless young woman who’d had a lot of illness in her childhood–enough so that her sisters and family still coddled her. She was sick of it! She was used to sneaking out to be able to do the things she enjoyed like gardening and horse back riding. Luckily, she finds a partner in her outings.
Colin is stuck in London. He was used to bring a soldier, constantly in action. When his older brother Hamish suddenly inherited a dukedom and changed the entire family’s standing, Colin and his sisters were thrust into society with little warning and no training. Colin stumbled along until he was taken in hand by a merciful friend, who acquainted him with the best places to go and how to get in as a young buck in society.
He did like spending time with his brother’s in-laws, the Windhams. They were a comfortable group and always welcomed him warmly. He especially enjoyed Anwen, though he knew she was beautiful and above him. She seemed to like him back, though. Maybe she wasn’t out of his reach?
You know who I don’t like at all? One of the male characters in this story. He never appealed even from the beginning, but he turned out to be a real a$$. You’ll catch on who he is eventually but be prepared, he gets worse. I’m sure you’ll agree by the end.
There is lots of suspense and some pretty contemptible behavior from some, but I really enjoyed both the mystery and the romance. Read it!
