Review: I forgot how emotionally draining these books are. They’re INTENSE! This family is in constant danger. All the heartache and healing in this one exhausted me. In a good way. You absolutely have to read the first book before Ravensong. There’s an abundance of history and pain you’ll be missing out on if you don’t. There’s a ton of world building. A huge cast of characters. Everyone’s lives are interwoven. They have a lot of pain and love to work through. Just be prepared to emerged fully into this world once you start reading.
Book 2 is Gordo and Mark’s story. I wondered if I would like the shift of MCs and POV change from Ox to Gordo. Ox’s POV had a very specific feel to it. The storytelling kind of mimic’s that vibe but Gordo has a lot of anger to work through. SO his POV is from an angry and bitter place. The first book in this series lets us know there was a betrayal between the pack and Gordo. Something unforgivable in Gordo’s mind. Now I get it. It hurt me as the reader. I’ll admit to crying a little. Feeling disappointment in Thomas was a new experience for me. I kind of get it from an Alpha standpoint but that doesn’t make me feel any better about it. As awful as this was for Gordo I couldn’t help but feel worse for Mark. He was stuck between his family and Alpha and the man that he loved. Don’t expect this to be a quick resolution either. We know Mark and Gordo love each other but they have a lot to work through.
Part of Ravensong overlaps Wolfsong. When Joe, Kelly, Carter and Gordo go on the road. We finally learn what happened. Wolfsong kind of left it all open because it’s told from Ox’s POV. He doesn’t know anything beyond they left and were gone a long time. There are repercussions of things that went down in Wolfsong. Omegas are showing up on the Bennett land crazed and beyond help. The pack problems are far from over. The Bennetts are once again targeted by outside forces. This book focuses on Gordo healing and forgiving when his pack and family are in danger. Life and death situations forcing him to acknowledge how much he still loves Mark. How much he loves his pack. How he needs Ox in his life. Accepting his role in the Pack.
What I really like about these books are all the relationships. I feel like I really know all the characters and there are a lot of them. The family dynamic created gives you this warm feeling. Like you understand why these people will die for each other. I’m completely invested in what’s to come. I want to know what’s up with Carter and new friend. What will happen with the other wolf clans. I feel satisfied with how this book ended but can’t help but want to know more. I’m a huge fan of Tj’s humorous books but this one is equally brilliant. A must read if you like shifters or intense stories that consume you. Once again I loved it!
